Having rid ourselves of a permanent place to live in August 2017, in January of 2018, I decided it was time to start reprioritizing my health and wellness.

I had tried a few of Beachbody’s at home fitness programs before, but was always more interested in group fitness and classes. I was absolutely one of those people who believed you couldn’t get as good of a workout from home as you could in a gym or at a studio. [insert eating of words here :)]

Not having a consistent/studio option, or any fitness community, I jumped head first into Beachbody’s newest program, 80 Day Obsession, and six months later, will be forever grateful for this life changing program!

WHAT is 80 day obsession

80 Day Obsession is a 13 week, 91 day, 80 workout and timed nutrition program, led by Beachbody Super Trainer Autumn Calabrese. The program focuses on sculpting flat abs AND shaping a higher, firmer butt—both at the same time—in a single, breakthrough program, but your ENTIRE body will reap the benefits!

Autumn matches 80 totally unique daily workouts—each one designed to build on the day before—with a daily eating plan customized to your goals.

The result? 80 Day Obsession helps you burn fat and carve lean, sexy muscle like no program you’ve tried before!

80 Day Obsession was featured on the Today Show, and has quickly become one of Beachbody’s most popular nutrition and fitness programs.

what you need to complete 80 day obsession

  • “ALL IN” mindset! 🙂
  • Loops, Sliders and Portion Control Containers
  • A set of dumbbells (5-12 lb if you are just starting or getting back into lifting any weights, 8-15 lb for medium range, or 10-25 lb dumbbells for a heavy range). You won’t need these all to start, so if you are only able to start with a few, I recommend the 8-15lb to start with, and you can always grab heavier weights as we go. Check out here for my favorite weight sets.
  • Shakeology – this is a MUST in my book. I believe in it 100% and I guarantee it will make a huge difference in your results. You can cancel at any time and we offer a 30-day refund if you don’t like it…you can drink as much of the bag/box in that 30 days to try it out, and will still get your money back so long as you return it within the 30 days.
  • Performance Line: ENERGIZE pre-workout & RECOVER post-workout formulas…my body thanks me for using these formulas! In fact, I was out of RECOVER for a few days and OMG, my body was so sore! I highly recommend these if it fits your budget.
  • Access to a smart phone, TV, tablet, computer, or device that will allow you to stream/download our workouts.  All of our workouts are completed with Beachbody On Demand (BOD)

If you are interested in bundling any of the above items for a cheaper price, check out our most popular 80 Day Obsession Packages (these include membership to BOD, loops, sliders, and a set of containers, and various other items by package).

real talk

Nutrition is a key component of this program, getting results and feeling great while doing it!

My biggest challenge with this aspect of the program was eating enough (ironic, really, I always thought I ate too much)! It took a little playing around with my nutrition, and eventually landing on eating in my “maintenance plan,” (you get to pick between a weight loss or a maintenance nutrition plan) for me to feel awesome, and see my best results. Who knew?! My body likes to EAT!

The timed nutrition program is easy to follow, and provides you with specific instructions on what portions of what foods you should eat at certain times of day. There are extensive food lists, so there is a way to make this work even for picky eaters. Anecdotally, I did two rounds of this program while traveling across 7 different countries and without a home base. It wasn’t always easy, or perfect, but I still saw GREAT results.

the workouts

There are six workouts every week with one rest day over the course of 80 Day Obsession. Each workout focuses on something different, with a whole body emphasis, so your body gets a good mix of things.

Autumn also throws in two “recovery” videos: one that shows you how to get the most out of foam rolling, and another one that focuses on stretching. I used these multiple times per week in addition to the workouts!

The program itself is split up into three phases: Phase One is a foundational phase with less compound movements and more fundamental instruction; Phase Two is a build phase, so heavier weights and more compound movements; and Phase Three is a shred phase, where all your hard work comes together and your body starts performing and looking incredibly.

Autumn talks about this A LOT during the program itself, but I think its good to commit to this portion of 80 Day Obsession (or just for regular life!) right out of the gate. If you wait until Phase Two or Phase Three to start employing good self care, you’re probably going to find it is already too late (low energy, sore muscles, potential injuries).

First, if you’re going to do this program, I HIGHLY recommend you invest in Beachbody’s Recover supplement (now comes in Plant Based-Vegan!). This product is life changing when it comes to muscle recovery, fatigue and soreness, and something I drank almost every day with 80 Day Obsession.

Second, if you don’t already have a foam roller, and a stash of Epsom Salts, invest in both before you begin, and commit to both AT LEAST once a week (more if possible). I foam rolled every day right before bed (you can foam roll multiple times a day if you want!), and took 1-3 epsom salt bathes every week too. I tossed in a full body massage for good measure every couple of weeks too.

Third, hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! If you’re like me, you’re going to sweat a lot with these workouts, and your poor body will need some extra replenishment on this front. Check out this plant based electrolyte powder you can add to your water (and toss the Gatorade away – that stuff is terrible for you)!

Sleep. More on this later, but if you’re going to see your best results with this program, you have also got to commit to getting some good quality sleep! I’m talking like 7-8 hours a night friends.

Lastly, with a program this long and challenging, there are going to be some mental/emotional shifts that need to happen and will happen! Planning for this with some extra mindset work is key. I recommend picking up and committing to one of my favorite personal development books.

80 Days is a LONG time. I like to think of myself as a pretty motivated, strong will powered person, but there were days with this program! Whether its nutrition, fitness, self care, or all of the above accountability, or just some extra inspiration, I would not recommend doing this program without the support of an accountability partner, group or community!

If you are in the United States, Canada, or the UK, and aren’t already working with a coach, just complete this form, and we can chat more about the awesome accountability myself and my team can provide in your 80 Day Obsession (or other health and wellness) journey!

This was such a fantastic program, I really can’t recommend it enough! It really takes a deep dive into so much more than just working out, focusing on nutrition, self care, and positive self talk.

80 Days is a LONG time (the program is technically 80 workouts spread over 13 weeks), and while I personally (and lots of my customers and friends) was nervous about the duration, I truly believe having something to commit to for 13 weeks equals long term sustainable progress. The habits you form during this program are really just that: habits, not short term fads!

That said, if you struggle with self-care, or have the mentality that you need to eat less to see results, this program will likely be more challenging for you. The workouts themselves are physically tax-ing, and if you aren’t focusing on proper fuel (nutrition), and re-filling your cup (self care like sleep, water, positive mindset), this program can feel extra tough.

Start off on the right foot with an “all-in” mentality and find yourself an accountability partner or group!

I am here to help you with accountability if you are not already working with a coach, just complete this form, and we can chat more!

My Personal Results from 80 Day Obsession: January to July 2018. Six months. Seven countries. Sans home base. A total of 8 lbs. lighter, and 29 inches released. Most importantly: energized, inspired, and motivated to keep going!
